The settlement which resolved the Brantmeier v. NCAA case earlier this year has reached another development, as a platform for pursuing damages has been announced.
Athletes who forfeited prize money in order maintain NCAA eligibility, or athletes who were deemed ineligible due to accepting prize money between March 19, 2020 – November 21, 2025 now have an avenue to receive damages from the NCAA.

The NCAA agreed to $2 Million to the Settlement Fund for the Damages Class, which can be tapped into by those who are eligible. The NCAA has also agreed to pay $1.875 Million in attorney fees and $435,000 in fees incurred by athletes while pursuing litigation.
“For Damages Class Members, you must submit a Claim Form by February 8, 2027, and each claim submitted must contain a valid NCAA ID number and adequate documentation for each tournament where prize money was forfeited.”
“Members of the Damages Class may exclude themselves by September 28, 2026 to keep any rights to sue the NCAA over the damages claims in this case. Members of either Class may also object to the Settlement, Attorneys’ Fee and Expense Award, or the Allocation Plan by September 28, 2026. The Court will hold a Fairness Hearing at 9:30 a.m. on January 8, 2027.”
Athletes are still unable to accept prize money above their expenses while competing in college tennis.
